About Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik is first mentioned in a written document in 1189. Dubrovnik’s importance was realized by both Venice and Byzantium, which could be seen in their attempts to seize power, however, Dubrovnik always retained its freedom with its diplomatic skill.
The basis and most important value for the development of Dubrovnik was freedom. It was guarded, fought for, written on the Dubrovnik Republic flag and documents, sang about, and engraved in the stone of Fortress Lovrijenac:

This exceptional medieval stone walled city is one of Europe’s top tourist destinations with UNESCO’s heritage protection locations. The entrance point for the city walls is by the Onofrio fountain. The complex aqueduct system brought water to Dubrovnik by free fall from 106 meters altitude (above sea level) and over 11.7 kilometres (7.3 miles) distance with 4 water tanks along the way which were disused with time as the Republic feared they could be used by the enemy in the time of war.
Built from 1438 to 1440, the Big Onofrio’s Fountain is a sixteen-sided container with a cupola, and was one of the ending points of the aqueduct system.
Dubrovnik in the old days had big problems with water because the summers are long and dry. They had boats that supplied the city with water because the wells were insufficient and then at the beginning of the 15th Century made a great step in civilization. Nothing similar had been done until then in Europe.

Upon arrival at Kotor, enjoy free time to explore on your own. The town of Kotor is famous for its nautical tradition, famous commercial fleet, and imposing city walls. After sightseeing, proceed towards Budva.

We were connected with Melita to help plan our trip in July 2021 to Croatia. We decided having someone local to help us navigate while the pandemic was still happening would make sense and it was a great decision. First, the cost per day to get a completely custom itinerary was worth it on its own. Melita asked questions about what we wanted to do and see, about our interests and with information created a perfect itinerary that included details like travel time, where to eat (which was important to us) things not to miss, etc. While we were in the middle of our trip she was also our "phone a friend" when we needed to get a question answered or help with new lodging.
